Noise-induced hearing loss is permanent and often develops gradually, so workers may not notice the damage as it occurs. Hearing protection posters provide visible reminders to wear required hearing protection and protect their hearing whenever hazardous noise is present.
Where should hearing protection posters be placed?
Place hearing protection posters where employees will see them before entering or while working in high-noise areas. Good locations include entrances to noisy work areas, near loud equipment, beside hearing protection dispensers, and in areas used for safety meetings.
When is a hearing conservation program required?
Under OSHA’s general industry standard, employers must have a hearing conservation program when employee noise exposure equals or exceeds an 8-hour time-weighted average of 85 decibels. The program includes requirements for noise monitoring, hearing tests, hearing protection, employee training, and recordkeeping.
What sizes and formats do hearing protection safety posters come in?
Premium safety posters come in six sizes from 8×10 to 24×36 inches and are printed on semi-gloss photo paper. Most designs are also available framed in black alder wood with an impact-resistant acrylic front, or as an $11 digital PDF you can print yourself. Economy posters have a matte finish and come in four sizes from 12×18 to 24×36 inches.
